Ovarian Cyst Symptoms
The existence of ovarian cyst symptoms alone cannot and will not confirm an ovarian cyst.
There are certain symptoms that can help point to this diagnosis, although individually, each symptom may not be a cause for concern, however two or more of them in combination would need to be checked out by a medical practitioner.
One of the symptoms of ovarian cysts is an irregular menstrual cycle including painful periods or bleeding in an abnormal fashion.
Other symptoms which may be indicators are a shorter or longer than normal period. Failure to menstrate or inconsistent menstruation should also be considered as menstrual irregularities. unexplained weight gain and Spotting are other symptoms of ovarian cysts.
Pelvic pain, and aches in the lower back and thighs are common ovarian cyst symptoms. Pain can commence prior to or following a period and may also be noticed during intercourse or strenuous exercise.
Pain and pressure both in the abdomen and in the pelvic area can be caused by the size, bleeding, bursting or twisting of a cyst. This can irritate the abdominal tissues and block the flow of blood to the cyst.
Some women with cysts experience symptoms of pregnancy, like nausea, vomiting, and tenderness in the breasts.
Infertility, itself is actually a common symptom of ovarian cysts.
Pain, fullness, or pressure in the abdomen often accompanies ovarian cysts. This pain may start and stop suddenly, and may be severe and sharp. There may also be abdominal bloating or swelling. In addition, pain or pressure during bowel movements including problems passing urine as well as pressure on the rectum or bladder may be a sign of ovarian cysts developing.
Ovarian cysts often cease over time, although some ovarian cyst symptoms are severe and require immediate medical attention.
These include sudden and severe pelvic or abdominal pain, pain with fever and vomiting, shortness of breath, and faintness or sudden weakness.
To ad to the confusion, Cysts can be present without any obvious symptoms and records show that the greater proportion of ovarian cyst cases are diagnosed not as a result of ovarian cyst symptoms, but during annual Pap smears.
